Hi and Welcome to Free Advertising Methods!
Are you a newbie entrepreneur? Are you frustrated by the lack of success you have had attracting traffic online?
My name is Laurel Nicolosi and I am glad you are here!
I am a teacher and tutor offline and online, and I have been in network marketing and affiliate sales for many years. I really appreciate the mentors I have gotten to know, and feel like I owe them a lot - for keeping my dream a possibility - for finding the good qualities that I have - who help me to find the next step in my journey to success.
All it takes is the desire and the willingness to learn, and they show me what is possible and how to do it MY way following THEIR example...and I am learning how to "brand" myself online...we'll talk more about that soon...
But let's talk about this first - who has helped YOU in your online marketing? Or in your LIFE for that matter...I believe that some people are really out there to help others....and this is what networking is all about --- hear it from Keith Ferrazzi, "one of the world's most 'connected' individuals" - he consults businesses with his company, Ferrazzi Greenlight.

So now you see - we need each other to succeed online!
No one is an island - a "self-made" millionaire...networking is all about building relationships with others and showing them something that is working for you - and then they show you something that has been working for them. You work together towards a common goal - financial independence and control of your life.
I hope I can lead you in that direction - with my methods here that center around Free Advertising to start and then you can feel free to "upgrade" for very low cost if you feel it is justified...
Have you spent money online advertising your company? I know some of you have spent a lot of money on Google Adwords, Pay Per Click, Sponsored Links, Keyword searches, SEO and more, and possibly made some money from that. But many of you may have spent MORE than you profited. Google thanks you - but where has that left YOU? You have gotten frustrated and figured there was NOTHING you could do to improve this.
Well, I am here to tell you that there are many FREE or very low cost advertising methods, and I would like to share these with you on this site. I created this "primer" to give you brief descriptions of each method and why they will benefit you and your business. I am giving you REAL life examples of each type of marketing and the exact places to join - I help you - you help me and are connected with me in whatever you decide to join. Now THAT is teamwork...puts the "network" in network marketing!
If you are new to advertising online, my advice to you is to look through this website and see what makes the most sense for you to start with, and then return when you need some more suggestions. Free advertising is not the only way...it is just the way most internet marketers START until they understand how things work and get comfortable with online marketing.
Please come back often as I will add to these as I find them to be good options for the savvy marketer. Some of these ways of advertising may seem "elementary" to you, but keep in mind that this is for the newbie as well as the experienced marketer.
I have a free gift for you at the end of the training here...so if you want to find it, look through to the bottom of the page - and also sign my guestbook - I would love to hear from you!

Free Advertising Methods
Method 1 - Advertising Sites
There are many out there these days, but I will just give you a couple to get you started. If you have enough time and interest, you can join many more, but these will give you an idea of what is out there, and of course, they are all free to join.
LeadsLeap
LeadsLeap.com is a free advertising site that combines contextual advertising (like Google Adwords) and network lead generation. In other words, it is not a safelist where you receive tons of emails from people that have your name and email, but you only receive emails from LeadsLeap admin that have to do with helping you succeed in business - tools, newsletters, blogs and so on. The contextual part is the ads on the side of the email - from members that either paid in points or credits to be there. And there are lots of tools to help you promote your site, including banners, emails, classified ads and more - and it is very compelling ad copy. Plus there is over 100 hours of free video training.
http://www.leadsleap.com
They even give you a free rebrandable ebook to promote your site - download your free copy here - http://www.leadsleap.com/1signupaday
Pageswirl
Pageswirl.com is a free URL rotator site. If you haven't heard of this, a URL rotator is a tool that allows you to list one URL (website address) in your advertising and promotional campaigns which will then redirect the traffic you generate to several URLs (for instance, your network marketing or affiliate page and those of five or ten or more of your downline members' pages, or the pages of different businesses you are in). It does this on a rotating basis, going to URL number one, then number two and so on until each URL has been visited; then it returns to URL number one and continues working through the list as long as the traffic is clicking on the original (master) link.
You can use a URL rotation link anywhere that you now use your individual page links - in e-mail campaigns, on a website, in traffic exchanges, classified ads, banner ads - you name your form of advertising and you can use a rotator link. Then, instead of just advertising for yourself, you will be advertising for everyone who you choose to team up with in your campaign. Or you can advertise several business simultaneously with only one URL.
One other option I just learned about is using it for your Craigslist advertising - everytime you advertise on Craigslist, a "different" page will come up - even if you choose to put the same page on every page of the rotator! So you won't get flagged for using the same page over and over...it is a different page every time! :)
There is the free option and there is also the paid upgrade if you choose to avail yourself of that.

Internet One Systems
Are you tired of paying $100 of dollars every month month for Internet marketing tools like auto responders, web hosting, squeeze pages,ad tracking, resale rights, and ebooks? And are you tired of buying Internet products that don't work together?
Well - now there is Internet One! This makes it EASY for the newbie. You can start for FREE - you get all this and more.
Let me show you how it works:
Let's say you want to promote your web site, affiliate or MLM link. Just advertising your link online doesn't work because that is what EVERY other affiliate is doing.
Instead, you set up a free lead capture (also known as squeeze pages) in Internet One using our easy-to-use templates built into the system, and add bonuses from our libraries to make your offer more attractive than all the other people marketing the same link online.
Then, you promote that NEW link, that is automatically created for your new page - anywhere on the web.
And get this - Internet One automatically tells you what traffic sources resulted in signups.
So if you want to try it out - go to http://internetonesystem.com/h/12450 and watch the video. You can create a squeeze page for free and get tracking for that page. You also have access to their library of free giveaways to give to people - a ready made business! You also have the option of upgrading if you want more capture pages and features.

Method 2 - Traffic Exchanges
This is a topic I could spend a lot of time on, but I will suffice it to say, there are MANY traffic exchanges out there with different perks and features. The reason that it is called "traffic exchange" is because you are advertising your site to people that see it (traffic) and you agree to see theirs in return.
The activity that you do here is called surfing, simply because you are looking at a lot of sites in a short amount of time. Most of them are automated surfing sites, that require you to look at each individual site a member puts up for 10-15 seconds, and then automatically rotates to the next site, after verifying that you saw that site. If you surf a certain number of sites, you earn credits or sometimes cash for surfing these sites daily.
I like Traffic Splash and Traffic Era - there are so many out there, but these are two I have found that I enjoy surfing on
- http://www.traffic-splash.com/?referer=laurelea
- http://www.trafficera.com/?ref=laurelea
The other choice is manual surfing sites, that give you the option of clicking on specific sites that interest you instead of just thrusting random sites in front of you. You get so many points for clicking on each link and it adds up so you are able to get exposure for your links and be out there in front of other networkers as well.
A good example of this is Traffic Swarm.
There is a lot of features to this site, including credits, featured ads, real time stats, video tutorials, free offers, even a lottery! You can get credits for referring others to your site or purchase credits if you really want to. You can also set your start page (or home page) to Traffic Swarm and get credits every time you open your browser! There is also an upgrade to Pro as well with additional features.

Method 3 - Social Networking
The point of social networking - in a nutshell - is to get to know other people online and build relationships with them. If you meet people on these sites, and they ask you to be friends, or you ask them, and then you never have time to respond, they won't do you any good. People like to talk to those who have a genuine interest (or at least seem to) in what they have to say, so if you see anyone on these sites that either have a product or service you are interested in, then ask them to be friends and get to know them. Or if they are in the same industry, maybe you can ask them for advice or find out what is working for them. The point is, if you join a few of these sites, and start some conversations, then check back at least every few days to see if they responded and also to post in forums, put up bulletins, etc. There are also paid upgrades that help you advertise more but these are all free to start.

My Space - the original social network.
If you don't have a My Space account yet, you might as well get one. Millions of people have one and I find it is the most user friendly way to make an effective site and it is very heavily trafficked. Now many people use this site for non-business activities, and you might have to put up with this if you are not careful. Be choosy on what friends you invite and you will be a lot better off and look a lot more professional. Some people believe that MySpace is just for teenagers, and many of them are...you just need to present yourself as a professional and don't accept anyone as a friend that doesn't share your entrepreneurial views.
MySpace is absolutely an open book for you to create. It doesn't give you a lot of predefined setup to work with - and that is good - if you like to create - and not so good if you don't know anything about setting up a website. If you don't know HTML, then just cut and paste links for banners, videos, etc. and write your text in the editor, a lot like this one. You can put all kinds of stuff in the About Me and Interests sections, add Music and anything else you are interested in. If you are concentrating on making this a business oriented site, the best thing you can do is to make it personal and not too "in your face" blasting people with tons of links - people don't like to be sold, they like to be told - and if they know you, like you, and trust you, they will tend to do business with you...so show people that you are a real person and a little about your background and why you do the businesses that you do, and put up some videos (if you are courageous enough) that show "you" and why you believe in what you do.
For an example - go to www.myspace.com/laureleasuccess and see what I have done with my site. It is very easy to get a background from the Profile Editor right on My Space so you don't have to download anything from one of those sponsored links and get a bunch of garbage you dont want :)
The only thing I don't like about My Space is that they change all your links to a my space url and then they put up that warning...but that is something everyone is used to by now so it is just accepted as part of life, and it does get you to the link.
By the way, Best Life Possible.com is my domain name, and my way to "brand" myself...I like to think that I live my "best life possible" every day. So I have redirected this domain to my other more general myspace page...this is where you may have come to find THIS page...or want to learn more about me and what I can do to help you. Just become my friend on MySpace and we can talk from there...www.bestlifepossible.com
Why not find a way to brand yourself? Buy an inexpensive domain name and redirect it to YOUR myspace page, or to a simple website like this one...this will REALLY change the perspective you have on business in general and show people you are looking to help them, not just show them one program after another that you have joined. If you have a place to showcase what you do, then they will be able to choose what would work for them.
Find a niche - something that you know something about and you are good at. It doesn't have to be something you know "everything" about...just something that you like to do and could show that interest or passion to others. Then you do some research, find some way to show people what you know, and if their interests are the same, then you could attract a following...

Other Social Networking Sites
There are many other social networking sites out there - and you may want to join a few to start with and then add to your repertoire as you see they are working for you and you have time to talk to the people you meet on them.
The benefit to starting with these sites (instead of MySpace) is that a lot of them are formatted for you, and you just fill in your details.
For example, I am a part of ZenZuu, Konnects, BraveHeart Women, and other similar sites.
www.zenzuu.com/bestlifepossible
www.konnects.com/profile/laurelea
There are many "Ning" Communities - a good example of what a Ning community is and what you can do with it is here - http://myouterspace.ning.com/profile/LaurelNicolosi.
Ning communities are unique in that they are created by individuals for a certain purpose - whether it is topic or activity based, it is a neat way to get to know people that have similar interests and is great for banners, blogging, music and getting to know others.
InSide919.com is my local "micro-business network". Pat Howlett is a great guy and he is the one that started this idea of "micro-business networks. I love this idea because you are able to contact people that are living in YOUR area and really connect with them - meet them for coffee - brainstorm about ideas - even join a meetup.com group in your area. There is nothing like actually meeting the people that you do business with if you can :)...
If you live in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, you can join at http://inside919.ning.com/ If not, try typing in Inside___ .ning.com with your area code and find out if there is one in your area. There are over 250 InSide Area Code groups - why not find YOURS?
BraveHeart Women is the largest community on the web for "purpose driven" women. It is a rather new community and I really like it because they let you customize your page (within predefined choices - very unusual), give you a personal statement, promote you along the bottom of the pages, and give you an opt-in form on your page so you can stay in touch with women that join the community. It was created by Ellie Drake and her team and it is REALLY professional. They have interesting features on there that are unlike a lot of the social communities out there - community news, directory, music, slideshow, your own blog and articles, and tools to promote your site - http://braveheartwomen.com/bestlifepossible/
What I do is join each one and use a similar name, so that whenever I join a new one, I don't have to think of an original name, but stay with the same or similar content. If you feel like putting different things about yourself on each site, or feel like one site caters to different parts of your personality, then that's fine. Or if you want to showcase different companies you are in on different sites, then that is another strategy as well.
Each one is a little different in their focus so you look at each one and see which one suits you and your personality and interests. Some give you an option to make money or get credit for bringing other people to the site, some are just communities that allow you to meet other networkers.
Adland Pro is an example of a community that focuses solely on the business builder, and gives you lots of options of paid advertising. I personally use only the free features, but know that the paid options are used extensively, as I get invitations in my inbox daily from Adland Pro members - http://community.adlandpro.com
I am also in Yuwie and Yibster, but these are more focused on making money and the advertising is irritating, especially on Yuwie. Yibster is newer and has a lot of other features such as Video Chat, Classifieds, Journal, Music, Rate Photos, etc. But they arent sites I visit as often because they are more purely social in my opinion. There are other communities that you can pay to be in each month such as Direct Matches and Friendswin - I have been in both and decided that I would only be in Free communities - the choice is yours.
In Summary - Social networking is a great FREE way to get to know others, but it takes time and a little dedication, and it is only for those who want to reveal some of themselves to the world, and build relationships. This extends to REAL relationships if you live in the same area of the country, or to phone calls, chats on IM or other ways of conversing if you don't.

Method 4 - Classified Ads
Classified ads have come a long way from the FFA days - there are many classified ad sites and some are more effective than others. There are many FFA sites still available, and directory sites and so on - but we will concentrate on three heavily trafficked classified ad sites here.
US Freeads
US Freeads.com is a free classified ads site that has been around since 1999. It is VERY high on Google's list - PR5 (Page Rank 5 out of 10) and if Google loves this type of ad, then you should too :) I didn't realize this until recently, and I am definitely going to use this site more often. You can see the high traffic content in the high number of postings for each category (thousands in each). Over 10,000 advertisers sign up with US Freeads each month!
They also offer 2 upgrade levels, Feature Ads, Keyword Alerts, and affiliate options. Gold membership is only $10 a year! And it gives you a LOT more advertising options and features.
Craigslist
I would say Craigslist.com is one that gets immediate attention in a local area and are VERY effective, especially if you are a small business owner targeting your local area. The drawback to the network marketer or internet marketer is that Craigslist discourages home based business owners from using their site for commercial purposes. It was originally created to be a personal sales site, where people could list specific items they were interested in selling, or events that were happening in local areas, or personal ads.
Now that the world has jumped on the Craigslist bandwagon, they have instituted rules so that you may not submit multiple identical ads to different areas of the country, but there are ways of getting around this and numerous Craigslist automated posters (finding one that works and doesn't cost a lot is the challenge). There are also people that will offer to put ads on Craigslist for you for a fee. But since we are discussing FREE methods, the way I recommend you to use Craigslist is to stick to maybe 5 cities per day, and vary your titles and content slightly. You can choose to be a member of Craigslist or post anonymously. The benefit to being a member is that you have your ads in your back office and you don't have to verify them as often. The drawback is that they might see that you are doing too many similar ads, and delete your posts. The community also has the option to delete your posts (pending approval by admin) if you overpost your ads. (All this is just my opinion - please don't take this as absolute fact, ok?) But Craigslist is a viable advertising method if you post correctly and consistently.
Backpage
Then there is Backpage.com. This site allows more similar/duplicate ads so you can do 10, 20 or more a day - this especially works if you have multiple email accounts in a domain you own (or even a GDI site). You set up each ad with a sequential email address, such as 1@bestlifepossible.com, 2@bestlifepossible.com etc. and they will permit you to do as many as you want without fear of deletion or flagging. I was taught this by a networking friend of mine who has ads on Backpage daily, and does VERY well at attracting new prospects to his businesses.
The only drawback to Backpage is that it is not as well known or as trafficked as Craigslist, but again, that is why it is easier to post there, and you WILL get leads from this....and hopefully not just ones from people trying to "reverse market" you into their opportunity :)

Method 5 - Videos
This isn't here to show you my finest work...but it is just for you to see me trying to show people what I like to do and one of the opportunities I am in...even a 60 second video can show people who you are...
If you are going to make videos, first of all, get comfortable in front of the camera (even if it takes you a few tries), and just BE yourself!! You can promote your product, but be personable and conversational. Add humor and make it short and sweet, or make it interesting and teach someone something that they need for promoting their business.
There are millions of videos out there on various sites, and the most popular and trafficked site is hands down - You Tube.
You can just put up individual videos, or put your videos on your own channel. You can see mine as an example - www.youtube.com/laurelea.
You can subscribe to people's channels, and every time they do a new video, you will be notified. (And if people subscribe to your channel, guess what? They are notified as well). You can add favorite videos that you like to your channel, invite people as friends onto your channel, and get ratings and comments as well as give them to others.
Many people use this medium as a selling tool, and the internet world is going more towards video than any other kind of advertising, because it is interesting and you can actually "see" the person that you would be doing business with. So make sure, as an internet marketer, that you represent yourself professionally but also stand out from the crowd, and make your videos memorable. But the most important thing? Just to get started with that FIRST one...just DO it! :)
